The University of California Board of Regents has opened applications for the 2027-28 student regent position. The student regent is a full voting member of the board, representing students from all 10 UC campuses.

This role allows the selected student to participate in discussions and decisions affecting university policy and student experience. The position comes with a stipend and a waiver for all systemwide tuition and fees during the two-year term, which includes one year as a non-voting regent-designate followed by one year as a voting member.

All UC students are eligible to apply. The application deadline is March 8, 2026. Students who want more information can attend an informational webinar on January 29, where current Student Regent Sonya Brooks and the student regent-designate will discuss their experiences and answer questions about the process.

“We hope every student who is interested in this position will join us for the webinar, and then apply for the position,” said Student Regent Sonya Brooks. “It’s so important that UC’s governing board include a passionate, outspoken student who wants to make a difference.”

Students seeking more details or resources about applying can contact studentregentapplication@ucop.edu or visit the application site for further materials such as FAQs and flyers.
