The U.S. Census Bureau has published the latest Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for July 2025, providing updated information on new business applications and formations across the United States. The BFS is a monthly data product that includes both seasonally and nonseasonally adjusted figures at the national, regional, and state levels.

Developed through collaboration between the Census Bureau and economists from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame, this dataset offers high-frequency insights into business activity.

In addition to national statistics, the Census Bureau has also released Monthly Puerto Rico Business Applications as an experimental data product. This release uses the same methodology as existing BFS reports and covers four monthly business application series specific to Puerto Rico.

There was no accompanying news release for this announcement; only a tip sheet was provided by the agency.
