The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has reported that the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers in the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area rose by 0.2% over the past two months and 3.5% from a year earlier.
According to the BLS, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) in this region increased by 0.2% over the two months ending in July 2025 and rose by 3.5% compared with July 2024. The monthly changes reflect local price trends for goods and services consumed by urban households in the area. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy, increased by 0.8% over the two months and 3.9% over the year. Food prices declined slightly by 0.1% over the two months but rose by 3.5% year-over-year, while energy costs fell by 5.3% over two months and decreased by 1.8% from the prior year, largely due to a drop in gasoline prices.
By category, shelter costs increased, reflecting higher rents and homeownership expenses. Medical care, food away from home, and used cars also saw price increases, while apparel, airline fares, and household furnishings declined. Food at home prices rose by 2.1% over the year, and food away from home climbed by 5.4%. Transportation costs showed mixed trends; gasoline prices were down but other transport services rose. Utilities and recreation costs increased slightly.
The BLS notes that these figures are not seasonally adjusted, so short-term monthly changes may vary more than broader regional or national trends.
Nationally, as reported by BLS, the CPI rose by 0.2% in July after a rise of 0.3% in June, marking an increase of 2.7% over the year. Shelter was a primary driver of this monthly gain, while food remained flat and energy fell by 1.1%. Core CPI excluding food and energy rose by 0.3% in July and was up by 3.1% over the year.
The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics is part of the U.S Department of Labor and serves as the federal government’s primary agency for labor economics and statistics collection.
