Taylor Rehmet, a long-time leader in the International Association of Machinists (IAM) union and a veteran, has been sworn in as a Texas State Senator. This marks the first time a rank-and-file union member has taken office in the Texas State Senate.

Rehmet has held several leadership positions within the IAM union. He stated that his move to the state legislature is a continuation of his commitment to representing workers’ interests. “He explicitly pledges to address critical issues such as stagnant wages, retirement security and public education.”

Rehmet’s inauguration was recognized as an important moment for the labor movement in Texas.
