Southern California Edison announced on March 27 that it has extended more than 1,000 compensation offers to individuals and businesses affected by the Eaton Fire through its Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program. The program has distributed nearly $380 million in relief to over 2,800 claimants.

The announcement marks a significant step in helping those impacted by the fire move forward. The company said that the initiative is designed to provide fast and compassionate support to community members who suffered losses due to the wildfire.

Pedro J. Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International, Southern California Edison’s parent company, said, “The Eaton Fire had a profound and lasting impact on the community. Each day we’re seeing signs of meaningful progress. This program reflects our commitment to provide quick, compassionate support and help community members take the next steps forward. Surpassing 1,000 offers is an important milestone in our efforts to support recovery.”

As of March 27, Southern California Edison reported that it had received a total of 2,827 claims covering nearly 8,400 individuals and entities. Of these claims, more than 1,100 offers have been extended totaling almost $380 million. Over $52 million has already been paid out to more than 400 claimants with additional payments currently being processed.

The Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program aims for efficiency by providing settlement values comparable to past wildfire lawsuits but through a faster process than traditional litigation. Claim submission typically takes less than two hours with most offers delivered within ninety days after receiving all necessary documentation. Payments are generally made within thirty days after settlement conditions are met; however many are processed even sooner.

Community members seeking assistance can access resources online or call dedicated support lines for guidance in multiple languages or schedule in-person appointments as needed.
