Snap Inc. has introduced a new feature called Home Safe, which allows Snapchat users to notify a friend when they have returned home after being out. The feature aims to help users reassure friends or family members of their safe arrival without needing to send a separate message.

Home Safe alerts are available only to friends with whom the user already shares their location. According to Snap Inc., the notification is sent once and then turns off automatically. Location sharing on Snap Map remains off by default, so users must opt in before anyone can see their location or receive Home Safe notifications.

The company says the new feature was developed with both safety and privacy as priorities. “Alerts can only be sent to friends you already share your location with, and the notification goes out only once, then shuts off automatically. As always, location sharing on Snap Map is off by default, so no one can see your location or receive a Home Safe alert unless you proactively choose to share it,” according to Snap Inc.

The tool is intended for situations such as returning from social events like dates, concerts, or trips, providing an extra measure of reassurance for users’ close contacts.
