Specs Inc., a subsidiary of Snap, announced on Apr. 11 a multi-year strategic agreement with Qualcomm Technologies to use Snapdragon system-on-a-chip technology in future generations of Specs eyewear.
The collaboration aims to enhance the integration of digital experiences into physical environments through advanced eyewear, which is expected to be released later this year. The companies say this partnership will support developers and consumers by delivering improved technology and performance.
According to the announcement, Specs are standalone glasses that allow users to see, hear, and interact with digital content as if it were part of their real-world surroundings. These devices are powered by Snapdragon XR platforms, which combine edge artificial intelligence with high-performance computing while maintaining low power consumption. This approach is intended to provide faster and more private on-device interactions.
Snap Inc. and Qualcomm Technologies have previously worked together for over five years on immersive technologies, including powering earlier versions of Snap’s Spectacles with Snapdragon platforms. The new agreement will focus on aligning product roadmaps and technical development so that both companies can bring features such as on-device AI, advanced graphics, and multiuser digital experiences to the Specs platform.
Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc., said: “We believe the future of computing will be more human and grounded in the real world. Our work with Qualcomm provides a strong foundation for the future of Specs, bringing developers and consumers advanced technology and performance that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible.”
The initiative also seeks to establish a scalable base for developers building applications for Specs eyewear while supporting consistent product updates.
