San Bernardino residents will soon have access to free legal advice at the Norman F. Feldheym Central Library through a new program called “Lawyers in the Library.” The initiative is a collaboration between the San Bernardino Public Library and Inland Counties Legal Services, according to a statement from the city.

The program is set to begin on September 9 and will be available from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. It will continue indefinitely at the library, located at 555 W. 6th St.

Attorneys participating in the program will offer assistance with various civil legal issues such as consumer law, housing, public benefits, elder law, simple estate planning, and expungements. If patrons require more specialized help, attorneys may refer them to additional resources.

Unlike criminal cases where defendants are provided lawyers by default, individuals involved in civil cases typically do not receive automatic legal representation.

Inland Counties Legal Services is a nonprofit organization that serves residents of Riverside and San Bernardino counties with civil legal services. The group first launched its Lawyers in the Library program in Riverside County in 2021.

For further information about the program, interested individuals can call (909) 998-4251.
