The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority announced on Mar. 19 that it is moving forward with the second phase of upgrades to Interstate 10, focusing on the section between Sierra and Pepper avenues.
The project is part of a broader effort known as the Interstate 10 Corridor Freight and Express Lane Project. The authority will begin accepting bids for this phase, according to a statement on its website.
Plans call for adding a single express lane in each direction along an eight-mile stretch from Interstate 15 to Pepper Avenue. To accelerate construction, the work has been divided into two phases: one covering Interstate 15 to Sierra Avenue, and another from Sierra Avenue to Pepper Avenue.
Later this summer, staff members are expected to recommend a contractor for the board’s approval, according to the statement.
The improvements are intended to address traffic congestion and support freight movement along this key transportation corridor.
