San Bernardino County announced on Apr. 7 the opening of Liberty Lane, an affordable housing community in Redlands designed for veterans and individuals with special needs.
The development aims to address homelessness among veterans and provide support services for those facing housing challenges. The facility offers case management, behavioral health care, and rental assistance to its residents.
Liberty Lane consists of 80 units at West Lugonia Avenue and Texas Street. The $51 million project includes 62 permanent housing units and began accepting residents several months ago. It was developed through a partnership between San Bernardino County and A Community of Friends, a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles that focuses on building, owning, and managing affordable rental housing for homeless individuals. J.P. Morgan Chase also contributed funding to the project.
Board of Supervisors Chair Dawn Rowe said in a statement, “This project demonstrates our dedication to supporting veterans in our community, many of whom have faced housing challenges.” Rowe added, “Liberty Lane provides a safe and stable place to live along with the supportive services for residents need to rebuild their lives.”
The opening of Liberty Lane represents an ongoing effort by local government agencies and nonprofits to reduce homelessness among vulnerable populations by providing both shelter and comprehensive support.
