The City of Riverside announced on Mar. 18 that it will close several of its libraries on Sundays beginning April 12 due to underperformance.

The change affects the Arlanza, Sgt Salvador J. Lara Casa Blanca, SPC Jesus S. Duran Eastside at Lincoln Park, La Sierra, and Marcy library branches, which will no longer be open on Sundays. The city said staff and resources from these locations will be shifted to operate Tuesday through Saturday instead.

Despite the closures, online library resources, eBooks, and Book Lockers will continue to be available for patrons seeking access outside regular hours. The Arlington, Main, and Orange Terrace libraries are not affected by this change and will remain open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to a statement posted on Riverside’s website, the decision was made in response to low usage at the affected branches during Sunday hours.

The city has not indicated when or if Sunday service might resume at the closed locations.
