The Riverside Police Department has secured nearly $496,000 in state grants to support traffic safety initiatives. The funding comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety and will be used for a range of programs through September 2026, according to information posted on the city’s website.
“This funding will enhance our ability to keep Riverside’s roads safe for all users,” said Sgt. Daniel Macias in a statement. “Through a combination of enforcement and education, we aim to reduce serious injuries and fatalities.”
Of the total amount, $450,000 is allocated for DUI checkpoints, patrols targeting distracted driving, enforcement of speed and traffic signal violations, as well as community safety efforts and officer training programs.
Additional funds include $21,000 dedicated to the Ride to Live motorcycle safety program and $25,000 for expanding the department’s Child Safety Seat Education Program. The latter initiative enables child safety seat inspections, educational classes, technician training, and distribution of free car seats to families in need.
