Richard Suarez has been named as the new Western Territory Coordinator for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), effective September 1, 2025. The announcement was made by IAM International President Brian Bryant.

Suarez brings a long history of union involvement, having started his career with the IAM in 1987 as a Reservation Agent for Northwest Airlines and a member of Local 1932 in Los Angeles. Over the years, he held various leadership roles, including Grievance Committee Chairman at Los Angeles International Airport and Air Transport District 143 General Chairman.

His experience spans both private and public sectors, with significant work in collective bargaining and organizing. He is fluent in Spanish and English, which has supported his participation in organizing campaigns, political rallies, and educational events such as IAM Human Rights Conferences.

“A lifetime of service and leadership has prepared Richard for this important role,” said IAM Western Territory General Vice President Robert “Bobby” Martinez. “His experience, education, and compassion for working people will help strengthen our union and grow the IAM Western Territory.”

In addition to elected positions within the union, Suarez served as an Educational Representative at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center beginning in 2011. There he trained members from across North America before joining the Western Territory Staff as a Special Representative in 2013. Two years later he became an International Representative for the same territory.

Suarez’s appointment reflects continued efforts by IAM to bolster its representation capabilities across its regions.
