Construction has started on the Cesar Chavez Community Center in Riverside, following a groundbreaking ceremony held on November 15 at 2060 University Ave., according to a statement posted on the city’s website.
The building, located in Bobby Bonds Park and originally constructed in 1928, will receive significant upgrades. The renovation will include structural enhancements, modernization of public event spaces, improved accessibility features, and updates to comply with current building codes.
In September, the Riverside City Council approved $19.7 million for the renovation project. The city expects the work to be completed by next September.
