Oxford Economics has released a study indicating that Amazon’s fulfillment center investments in San Bernardino County, California, have been associated with increased local business formation, higher earnings, and enhanced economic activity.
According to the 2025 analysis by Oxford Economics, which examined 55 U.S. counties where Amazon created at least 1,000 jobs in a single year, these areas experienced higher job creation, stronger wage growth, and increased business formation. San Bernardino County was highlighted as a detailed case study demonstrating measurable local economic benefits.
In San Bernardino County specifically, the research identified a statistically significant rise in local business establishments and improved income distribution following Amazon’s investment. The share of households in the bottom 5% income bracket decreased by 0.5%, reflecting higher earnings among lower-income residents. These findings suggest that Amazon’s facilities have contributed to sustained economic growth in the region.
Amazon employs more than 25,000 people across 25 sites in San Bernardino County, accounting for nearly 3% of total local employment. These operations include fulfillment centers, delivery stations, and an air hub at San Bernardino International Airport. The company’s investments have also generated thousands of indirect jobs in surrounding logistics and service industries.
Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Amazon.com Inc. operates one of the world’s largest logistics and e-commerce networks. In California alone, Amazon employs over 150,000 full- and part-time workers and maintains more than 200 facilities statewide. The company continues to invest in workforce development, education partnerships, and community support initiatives through programs such as Career Choice and Disaster Relief Hubs.
