Nyjel Alexander, Supervisor I in the Consumer Affairs Branch of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), described his work and experiences in a statement released on Apr. 16.
Alexander said he manages a team of analysts within the Written Operations Unit, which assists consumers who have concerns related to their Investor-Owned Utilities. He also oversees a group responsible for managing key inboxes that receive inquiries from utilities, consumers, CPUC divisions, and legislative bodies. According to Alexander, “We work collaboratively to ensure timely and accurate responses to a wide range of issues and requests.”
He highlighted that helping consumers is one of the most rewarding aspects of his job. “It’s fulfilling to know that my work contributes to helping people navigate important issues that impact their daily lives,” Alexander said.
Reflecting on career advice he has received, Alexander noted: “The best career advice I’ve ever received is that while it’s easy to remain in your comfort zone, growth often comes from stepping outside of it.” He added that learning new skills can open doors for future opportunities.
Outside of work, Alexander enjoys spending time with his family and attending car shows. He said these activities allow him both to connect with loved ones and observe technological advances in vehicle manufacturing. On what drew him originally to CPUC, he explained: “What particularly drew me in is the potential for growth and advancement across different divisions.”
