Construction has started on the widening of Murrieta Hot Springs Road in Murrieta, a project that has been in planning for some time. According to a statement from the city’s website, the roadwork will take place between Magarita Road and Winchester Road. The project will expand the thoroughfare to six lanes from Via Princesa East to Delhaven Street.

The construction includes adding one new lane in each direction. Additional upgrades involve new pavement, sidewalks, bicycle lanes in both directions, improved street lighting, and the building of retaining and planter walls. The city also plans to add curb ramps that comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Work is scheduled between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., which is intended to reduce traffic slowdowns during busy hours. No complete street closures are anticipated as part of this effort.

The total cost for these improvements is about $15 million. City officials expect construction will finish by next spring.

“That will require one new lane in each direction. Other planned improvements include pavement upgrades, new sidewalks and bicycle lanes in each direction, improved street lights, construction of retaining and planter walls. Curb ramps compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act will also be built.”

“Some work is being done between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to lessen the traffic slowdown during the daytime. No full street closures are expected.”

“Cost of the project is approximately $15 million. Construction is expected to be completed next spring, according to the statement.”
