Moreno Valley’s city council has voted against imposing a 45-day moratorium on new warehouse construction. The decision, made during a meeting on February 3, ended with a 3-2 vote in favor of the ban, but the measure required four votes to pass.
The proposed moratorium would have aligned Moreno Valley with other Inland Empire cities such as Perris and Hemet, which have recently rejected further logistics development within their boundaries. The Inland region contains approximately one billion square feet of industrial space and is considered one of the area’s largest sources of employment and a significant hub for logistics in the western United States. This prominence has led some local governments to reconsider their approach to approving new warehouse projects.
Despite the failed moratorium, several logistics developments in Moreno Valley are still paused while the city works on updating its general plan.
