A group of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) leaders, led by Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli and Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo, recently visited the Quaker Oats facility in Cedar Rapids. The Local 831 (District 6) Shop Committee hosted the delegation, providing an opportunity to observe the plant’s production systems and highlight the role played by IAM-represented workers.

The Cedar Rapids facility is recognized as the world’s largest cereal mill, known for producing Cap’n Crunch and other cereals.

“This tour offered an invaluable perspective on the commitment and skill our members bring to their work every day,” said Cicinelli. “Seeing the scale of operations and hearing directly from rank-and-file members strengthens our resolve to continuously advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, and a seat at the table in shaping the future of labor at Quaker Oats.”

During the visit, union representatives addressed key issues with members such as safety protocols, training options, and economic priorities. These discussions are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen union involvement in large workplaces like Quaker Oats.

Members shared their views on current challenges at the facility and opportunities ahead, emphasizing the need for solidarity as contract negotiations approach. The IAM also works closely with other unions at the site, including SMART and BCTGM, which enhances its collective influence and support among workers.
