The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is calling on the U.S. Senate to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act, which aims to restore collective bargaining rights for federal employees.

According to the IAM, President Donald Trump issued an executive order on March 27 that ended collective bargaining for federal unions. The union described this move as an attack on civil servants and their workplace rights.

IAM International President Brian Bryant has sent letters to both members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate urging them to support the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550). The bill was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and it currently enjoys bipartisan backing.

“IAM Union strongly supports the Protect America’s Workforce Act for restoring collective bargaining rights to the nation’s federal workforce,” said a statement from IAM leadership.

The union emphasized that federal workers are vital public servants who deserve collective bargaining protections. “Federal workers are essential, and they’re committed to serving the American people. These workers deserve the right of collective bargaining, which provides protections in the workplace and better service to the public, just to name a few benefits.”

IAM represents thousands of federal employees through its affiliate, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), which covers approximately 110,000 federal workers nationwide.
