The Highland–Redlands Connector Project received a $2 million grant from the federal government, Rep. Pete Aguilar announced on Apr. 11. The funding was presented to the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority to support progress on the project.
The connector is intended to improve transportation options and safety for local residents by building a network of walkways and bicycle lanes linking Highlands and Redlands.
Aguilar said, “If the transportation authority keeps delivering, I’ll keep helping.”
According to a statement from the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, construction of the 5.2-mile connector is scheduled to begin this summer and is expected to be completed within one year.
Once finished, the project will provide better access for students at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands by replacing an existing two-lane road that currently lacks sidewalks or bicycle lanes.
Local officials expect that these improvements will make it safer and easier for pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
