Edison International announced on March 19 the opening of applications for its 2026 Lineworker Scholarship, which aims to support individuals pursuing careers in skilled trades within the energy and utility industry.
The scholarship is designed to address workforce needs in the sector by providing financial assistance and training opportunities. Up to 12 recipients will each receive as much as $25,000 to enroll in Los Angeles Trade-Technical College’s Powerline Worker: Pole Climbing Certificate program and obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license. The funds cover tuition, tools, and support services such as housing, transportation, and childcare.
Orville Cocking, Southern California Edison’s senior vice president of Transmission & Distribution, said, “Our industry is responsible for safely providing reliable electric service, and our lineworkers make that possible. The Lineworker Scholarship can help launch a rewarding career to dedicated individuals eager to make a difference in their community.”
Scholarship recipients who complete the certificate program and meet pre-employment requirements are eligible for full-time entry-level positions at Southern California Edison (SCE). These jobs are located within SCE’s 50,000-square-mile service area and may require relocation. Colin Lavin, business manager of IBEW Local 47, said, “Lineworkers don’t just keep the lights on — they answer the call in the toughest conditions, around the clock, to keep our communities running. This partnership with Edison International is about investing in the future of our trade and making sure the next generation is ready to carry that responsibility.”
Eligibility requirements include demonstrating financial need; enrolling in the Powerline Worker: Pole Climbing Certificate program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College for fall 2026; having a high school diploma or GED equivalent; being eligible to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship; possessing a valid driver’s license; being able to obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license; and being at least 18 years old.
