DC Comics has entered into a yearlong partnership with Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines (GDA | TLC), a charity supported by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM Union). The collaboration aims to raise awareness about the role of service dogs in assisting people who are blind or visually impaired, veterans with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries, children with autism, and public institutions.

This initiative follows last year’s joint event at San Diego Comic-Con. As part of the new partnership, DC is sponsoring a litter of puppies that will be trained as guide and service dogs. For this occasion, GDA | TLC made an exception to their usual naming practices, allowing the dogs to be named after well-known DC characters.

The five puppies—Krypto, Clark, Lois, Kara, and Lobo—each have traits inspired by their namesakes. According to the announcement:

“Krypto – Inspired by Superman’s loyal Superdog, where good dogs and great heroes meet

Clark – Mild-mannered, kind-hearted, and guided by strong morals

Lois – Smart, fearless, and always determined

Kara – Powerful, courageous, and learning to harness incredible abilities

Lobo – Bold, fearless, and unforgettable”

After completing initial training known as puppy pre-kindergarten, these dogs will live with volunteer puppy raisers who will help them develop skills needed for their future roles supporting individuals in need.

Supporters can follow the progress of these puppies through various events and online updates throughout the year. There will also be opportunities for fans to meet the puppies in person at San Diego Comic-Con in July.
