The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has scheduled a series of public forums to gather input on the California American Water Company’s recent request to increase water and wastewater rates across its districts in the state. These forums will provide customers with an opportunity to voice their opinions directly to the CPUC regarding the proposed rate hikes.
According to the CPUC, these sessions are intended for customers who want to learn more about the rate request and share their comments. “Public input helps the CPUC make an informed decision, and the CPUC invites customers to attend to learn more and provide comment,” stated the commission.
The forums will be held at various locations within California American Water Company’s service areas. In-person meetings are set for January 6, 2026, in Citrus Heights; January 13, 2026, in Sand City; and January 20, 2026, in Camarillo. Each of these events will offer two sessions at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. A virtual forum is also planned for January 28, 2026, with participation details available via telephone or online viewing.
Customers who wish to speak during these forums can sign up at each event or join virtually by calling a toll-free number. Written comments may also be submitted online through the proceeding’s Docket Card.
California American Water Company is required by regulation to file a general rate case application with the CPUC every three years so that water rates reflect current costs of providing safe and reliable service. The company filed its latest application on July 1, 2025. The proposal includes increasing average residential bills by $20.44 per month (16.1 percent) in Monterey, $22.56 per month (17.9 percent) in Southern California districts, and $16.73 per month (22.2 percent) in Sacramento.
No decisions will be made during these public forums; they are solely for gathering public feedback before any official action is taken.
For further details on dates, locations, or how to participate—either in person or virtually—customers can visit resources provided by the CPUC on its website.
The CPUC oversees utilities throughout California with a mission to protect consumers while ensuring access to safe utility services statewide.
