The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a warning to consumers regarding TRE House brand Magic Mushroom gummies, chocolate bars, and syrup. The department found that these products contain synthetic psychedelic compounds, which can cause severe health effects including hospitalization or death.
According to CDPH, laboratory tests revealed that the TRE House products contain an analogue of psilocin, classified as a Schedule I drug by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Specifically, all tested items contained 4-Acetoxy-DET (4-Acetoxy-N,N-diethyltryptamine), and most also included 4-Acetoxy-DMT (4-Acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine). Both substances are illegal psychedelics.
“These food products have the potential to cause severe adverse health effects, including hospitalization and even death. The risk of misuse, overuse, or negative interactions with other medications is high, especially without oversight or consultation with medical professionals. They may be particularly dangerous for young children who may consume them under the assumption that these are typical candies and syrup,” stated CDPH in its announcement.
No illnesses have been reported so far. However, officials expressed concern about individuals seeking therapeutic benefits from psychedelic mushroom products who might inadvertently expose themselves to serious risks by consuming these items.
The state is currently investigating TRE House, based in Chatsworth, California, along with its contract manufacturers. The company’s products were labeled as containing a “Magic Mushroom Microdose Blend” and “Proprietary Nootropic Mushroom Blend.” Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of synthetic mushroom-based psychoactive drugs in the chocolate bars. Authorities embargoed more than 1,000 pounds of TRE House brand gummies; these were later voluntarily destroyed. CDPH indicated that those responsible could face civil or criminal penalties pending further investigation.
The affected products include:
– Chocolate Bars: Peanut Butter (UPC 810135374439), Chocolate Milk (UPC 810135370004), Fruity Cereal (UPC 810135370035)
