The California Public Utilities Commission announced on March 23 a list of new filings and proposed decisions from the week of March 16-20, which could impact utility services, communities, and consumers across the state.
These weekly updates are important as they include both proposed decisions open for public comment and new complaints or applications that may influence future policy. The commission encourages public participation by allowing written comments on proposed decisions through each proceeding’s Docket Card and offering a subscription service for ongoing updates.
Among the proposed decisions filed during this period is one granting compensation to the Protect Our Communities Foundation for its contribution to several past commission decisions. Another proposed decision would grant compensation to Utility Consumers Action Network related to a recent decision. Additional proposals address issues such as Southern California Edison Company’s application regarding marginal costs and rate design, as well as denying Southern California Gas Company’s request for cost recovery related to the Angeles Link project.
Several new applications were also filed by utilities and regional energy networks seeking approval of business plans or portfolio plans spanning from 2028 through 2035. These include filings from Southern California Edison Company, Association of Bay Area Governments, County of Ventura, San Diego Gas & Electric Company, Marin Clean Energy, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Southern California Gas Company, San Diego Community Power, Central California Rural Regional Energy Network, Peninsula Clean Energy and others. The filings cover topics such as energy efficiency portfolios and strategic business plans intended to shape future operations.
The week also saw two expedited complaint proceedings: one involving an allegation against Southern California Edison Company regarding Rule 17 violations brought by Soon Hee Song and Chung Sup Song; another alleging overbilling by San Jose Water Company filed by Suzanne M. Valente.
Members of the public can participate in these proceedings by submitting comments via Docket Cards or subscribing with proceeding numbers to receive updates on rulings and notices.
