The California Department of Real Estate (DRE) and the California Civil Rights Department are organizing a free webinar series aimed at property managers. The series will address fair housing laws and responsibilities, with a focus on issues such as source-of-income discrimination, protections for applicants with criminal histories, and accommodations for people with disabilities.

The first session, “Fair Housing 101,” is scheduled for August 27, 2025, from 1 to 2 p.m. It will provide an overview of fair housing protections and responsibilities. Topics include discrimination based on income sources, rights of applicants with criminal backgrounds, and rules regarding emotional support animals.

A second session titled “Housing Protections for People with Disabilities” will take place on September 11, 2025, from 11 a.m. to noon. This webinar will discuss specific legal protections for individuals with disabilities and outline the obligations of housing providers regarding reasonable accommodations and modifications.

Another “Fair Housing 101” session is planned for October 2, 2025, from 11 a.m. to noon. The content will mirror the first session’s focus on basic fair housing protections.

On October 21, 2025, from 11 a.m. to noon, the final webinar in the series will cover legal protections available to people with criminal histories seeking or retaining housing. The discussion will also highlight best practices and responsibilities of property managers in these situations.

According to the organizers: “We invite you to join us (DRE) and the California Civil Rights Department for a free webinar series for Property Managers! We look forward to seeing you there. Please note space is limited – register today!”

Registration is required as space is limited.
