Amazon announced on Apr. 7 that it is seeking an Operations Engineer to manage the lifecycle of cross-functional projects, focusing on developing and delivering new sortation and distribution solutions. The position involves planning and implementing facility network infrastructure for new builds, retrofits, expansions, and program initiatives. Candidates will work closely with internal customers as well as internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely project handovers.
The role is important for Amazon’s ongoing efforts to improve its global physical distribution systems. The company said the Operations Engineer will be responsible for managing technology or integration projects from design through delivery while minimizing disruption to support teams by keeping schedules on track and proactively mitigating risks.
According to Amazon, this position requires up to 80% domestic travel with periods of extended trips lasting up to three weeks. When not traveling, the employee is expected to work from a corporate office location. Relocation assistance may be available for those who need it.
Key responsibilities include independently managing complex project lifecycles across organizations and geographies; participating in engineering reviews; partnering with teams, stakeholders, and vendors; leading execution of system designs; facilitating meetings; communicating status updates; articulating system designs; managing change orders and invoices; building stakeholder relationships; identifying process improvements; and more.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another STEM field along with experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD or REVIT. A master’s degree or direct experience in operations management or automation solutions is preferred.
