Economists at Amazon collaborate with senior management, business stakeholders, scientists, engineers, and economist leadership to address key business challenges. Economists are expected to develop econometric models using extensive data systems and apply methods from fields such as applied macroeconomics or microeconomics, econometric theory, empirical industrial organization (IO), health economics, labor economics, public economics and related disciplines.

The role may involve working within a cross-functional team in a business unit or being part of a central science and economics group. Responsibilities include developing techniques for applying econometrics to large datasets and contributing to automated system design throughout the company.

Applicants must have a PhD in Economics or related fields such as Quantitative Marketing or Finance. Required qualifications include expertise in econometric analysis involving fundamental preferences and strategic effects estimation; strong statistical methodology skills; experience analyzing pricing strategies, competition issues, labor decisions, healthcare outcomes, auctions or contract design; the ability to work in high-pressure business settings; an established research record; and effective communication skills with both economists and non-economists.
