Amazon announced on Apr. 26 details about the position of Mechatronics & Robotics Technician, highlighting responsibilities, required qualifications, and aspects of the application process. The company said this role supports the Operations Maintenance team by repairing and maintaining material handling equipment and pneumatic systems in its facilities.

The announcement matters as it provides insight into how Amazon maintains reliability in its global operations, which deliver products to many countries every day. The technicians play a key part in ensuring equipment functions smoothly so customers receive timely service.

According to Amazon, technicians will install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment while also mentoring junior staff. Key job duties include promoting a safe working environment by following safety procedures, completing preventative maintenance routines with proper documentation, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems related to material handling equipment such as belts and motors, maintaining positive relationships across the facility, moving up to 49 pounds safely during long shifts, climbing ladders or gangways without limitation, as well as performing regular bending or stretching.

Applicants must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent along with experience using Microsoft Office products. Additional requirements include flexible scheduling availability—such as nights or weekends—and either certification from Amazon’s Mechatronics and Robotics Apprenticeship Program or two years of relevant experience with automated conveyor systems. Experience conducting predictive maintenance procedures; reading blueprints; demonstrating safety standards; diagnosing issues with material handling equipment; robotic operation; electrical principles; an associate’s degree in mechanical or electrical fields; or apprenticeship experience are also considered valuable.

Amazon said that compensation packages include healthcare benefits starting on Day 1 of employment, matching for retirement savings plans like 401(k), paid parental leave up to 20 weeks depending on eligibility criteria—and additional earnings through overtime pay or performance bonuses may be available based on shift selection and location. Employees are provided daily fire-resistant wear for safety.

The company added that it is an equal opportunity employer: “Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.” Applicants needing workplace accommodations can find more information at https://amazon.jobs/content/en/how-we-hire/accommodations.
