Amazon is participating in the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80), where it is discussing the development of artificial intelligence and efforts to expand global internet access. The company is engaging with international leaders and policymakers to address how technology can help solve significant global challenges.

According to Amazon, its approach to artificial intelligence centers on responsible development. The company aims to create tools that make technology more accessible while supporting human potential. “During my time here I’ll be engaging with global leaders on how we can collectively harness these technologies and innovate for impact while addressing concerns about development and governance. I’m particularly excited to share our vision for how we are developing and deploying responsible AI and helping to expand internet connectivity through Project Kuiper to improve lives, create economic opportunity, and build a more sustainable future,” an Amazon representative said.

Project Kuiper, Amazon’s satellite initiative, was highlighted as part of the company’s commitment to increasing high-speed internet access worldwide. The project seeks to deliver affordable and reliable connectivity, especially in communities that currently lack adequate service. “Project Kuiper—our initiative to increase global high-speed internet access through a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit—exemplifies Amazon’s commitments. By working to provide fast, affordable, and reliable internet to unserved and underserved communities worldwide, we’ll help close the digital divide that continues to limit economic development and educational opportunities for billions. Connectivity is a way to participate in the modern economy, access services, and exchange knowledge and culture with the world,” the spokesperson added.

Amazon states that expanding connectivity will support economic growth by allowing broader participation in the digital economy as well as improved access to education and essential services.
