Amazon MGM Studios announces ‘Spaceballs’ sequel with original cast returning

Amazon MGM Studios has announced that it will produce a sequel to the 1987 sci-fi comedy “Spaceballs.” The new film is scheduled for theatrical release in 2027 and will see the return of several original cast members.

Rick Moranis, known for his roles in “Ghostbusters” and “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” will reprise his role from the original movie. Mel Brooks, who played President Skroob and Yogurt, will also return. Other returning cast members include Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and George Wyner.

The sequel will introduce new cast members such as Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan. The studio has not released specific plot details but described the project as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.”

Josh Greenbaum is set to direct the film. The screenplay is being written by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad. Producers include Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Jeb Brody from Imagine Entertainment; Mel Brooks; Josh Gad; Josh Greenbaum; and Kevin Salter. Adam Merims, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez are executive producers.
