Amazon is the first company to utilize sustainable aviation fuel at Ontario International Airport, as part of an agreement with Neste. The agreement involves the supply of 7,500 metric tons (2.5 million gallons) of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel. This development was communicated through a biofuels international release.

Ontario International Airport recorded its busiest September in history in 2024, continuing its growth as a regional logistics hub. According to the Los Angeles Times, strong passenger traffic and increased cargo volumes contributed to this milestone. The airport serves as a key distribution center in the Inland Empire.

Neste’s sustainable aviation fuel can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil jet fuel. According to Neste, the fuel is made from renewable raw materials such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste. Amazon will use Neste’s SAF at Ontario International Airport through the end of 2025.

Amazon has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its global operations by 2040. In its 2023 sustainability report, the company noted a 7% reduction in carbon intensity while overall business activity grew. The use of SAF at Ontario International Airport supports this long-term emissions reduction strategy.

Neste is a Finland-based producer of renewable fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel. It operates SAF supply chains across North America and partners with airports like Ontario to enable lower-emission aviation. In 2023, Neste was ranked among the world’s 100 most sustainable companies by Corporate Knights.
