Amazon Pharmacy has expanded its RxPass subscription service, aiming to make prescription medications more affordable and accessible for Prime members across the United States. The program, which charges a flat $5 monthly fee, provides access to over 50 commonly prescribed generic medications with free home delivery.
RxPass does not require insurance and is now available in 48 states. It targets people managing chronic health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, anxiety, and heart disease. According to Amazon Pharmacy, nearly half of the U.S. population lives with at least one chronic illness, and 17% of Americans live far from a pharmacy.
“At a time when nearly half of the U.S. population is managing chronic conditions, bringing affordable and convenient access to medications through our expansion of RxPass to customers in 48 U.S. states will help many manage their conditions more easily,” said John Love, vice president of Amazon Pharmacy. “Amazon Pharmacy will continue to leverage Amazon’s customer-obsessed approach and extensive delivery network infrastructure to ensure customers enjoy the ease and convenience of managing their health through fast medication delivery.”
The service allows Prime members in eligible states to sign up via the Amazon Pharmacy website or mobile app. After enrolling, users pay the $5 monthly fee on top of their existing Prime membership costs. The fee covers all eligible prescriptions included in the program regardless of quantity.
Customers can fill prescriptions directly through Amazon Pharmacy by having their healthcare provider send prescriptions or by transferring existing ones from another pharmacy. Medicare beneficiaries are also eligible for RxPass and could save about $70 per year on qualifying medications.
Tess Carey, a senior pharmacist at Amazon Pharmacy, said: “Many customers, especially the older population face multiple barriers when managing chronic conditions which could be life altering. With RxPass many customers can enjoy the benefits of having affordable, reliable medication access which will increase adherence to help save many lives.”
Licensed pharmacists are available around-the-clock for questions or support regarding prescriptions. Customers may cancel their RxPass subscription at any time.
The launch comes as part of broader efforts by Amazon Pharmacy to use technology—including generative AI—to improve medication management and healthcare delivery for millions nationwide.
